A hernia occurs when an internal part of the body pushes through a weakness in the muscle or surrounding tissue wall. A hernia usually develops between your chest and hips. In many cases, it causes no or very few symptoms, although you may notice a swelling or lump in your tummy (abdomen) or groin. The lump can often be pushed back in or disappears when you lie down. Coughing or straining may make the lump appear.

There are several types of hernias, including inguinal hernias, femoral hernias, umbilical hernias, and hiatus hernias. Treatment for a hernia usually involves surgery to repair the hernia. The three main types of hernia surgery are open repair, laparoscopic (minimally invasive) repair, and robotic repair.

During open surgery, the surgeon makes a cut called an incision near the hernia. The bulging tissue is returned back into the body through the incision. The weak muscle that allowed the hernia to occur is then repaired. It may be stitched back together or, more commonly, patched with a synthetic material called mesh.

Laparoscopic surgery involves making multiple tiny incisions around the hernia. A laparoscope, a thin telescope-like instrument, is inserted through one of these incisions. The surgeon uses the laparoscope to view the inside of your abdomen on a monitor and performs the surgery using special instruments inserted through the other incisions.

Robotic surgery is similar to laparoscopic surgery but involves the use of a surgical robot to perform the procedure. The surgeon controls the robot from a console in the operating room.

SurgSci is a laparoscopic instruments manufacturer and supplier in China that produces ultrasonic scalpels that can be used during hernia repair surgery. Ultrasonic Scalpel System uses high-frequency mechanical vibration to change the structure and state of biological tissues. It is mainly used for surgical operations such as cutting biological tissues and vascular closure. Some advantages of using an ultrasonic scalpel during hernia repair include less bleeding, less damage to surrounding tissues, and faster postoperative recovery.
