Valveless disposable trocars are a specialized medical device that can be used in a variety of scenarios. Most frequently, they are used during laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery, which is a procedure designed to cause minimal invasion to a patient requiring abdominal surgery.
A study found that the use of a valveless trocar significantly reduced CO2 consumption during transperitoneal laparoscopy. The valveless trocar also demonstrated significantly reduced CO2 elimination and absorption when compared with the standard trocar.
