A tumor under a cat's tongue is an oral disease. Sublingual gland cysts in cats tend to occur in the small mucous glands and sublingual glands on the ventral side of the tongue tip.
It happens for two reasons. One is that the distal end of the duct is blocked, and the mucosa continues to secrete, resulting in the expansion of the proximal end to form an epithelial cyst, which is called a retention cyst. The other is that due to gland damage, mucus seeps into the interstitial space, forming a cyst without an epithelial lining, called an extravasation cyst.
Surgical removal is the mainstay of treatment for sublingual tumors. A CT scan of the head and neck is performed before surgery to determine the extent of the disease and to specify a surgical plan. During the operation, most of the cysts were removed by tissue shearing, and the inner and outer mucosal surfaces of the sublingual glands were exposed, and the cysts were removed by suction.
