The Advantages of Laparoscopic Surgery

Laparoscopic surgery is a minimally invasive procedure. Its development eases the pain of surgery for patients, shortens the recovery period of patients, and relatively reduces the cost. It is a surgical project that has developed rapidly in recent years. Laparoscopic surgery has several advantages compared to traditional surgery.

1. Reduce the Risk of Bleeding During Surgery

The advantage of laparoscopic surgery is that large open wounds or incisions can be avoided, thereby reducing blood loss, pain and discomfort. Laparoscopic surgery mainly uses electric shock and coagulation. The blood vessels are coagulated and then incised, and the amount of bleeding is very small.

2. Reduce Postoperative Pain

Laparotomy can create larger surgical wound, as short as 8cm and as long as 15-20cm. However, in a laparoscopy, only small holes are punched. The pain is lessened and the recovery is fast after surgery.

3. Small Surgical Trauma

Compared with traditional open surgery, laparoscopic abdominal wounds are smaller and muscles are generally not injured during the operation. When the wound needs to be expanded under special circumstances, the muscle is usually not broken, and the trauma to the body is very small. This also prevents scar tissue infections and hernias from developing.

4. Short Hospital Stay

Laparoscopic surgery is minimally invasive, with less touch to the digestive tract and organs in the entire abdominal cavity, and the traction injury is small. The patient experienced rapid exhaustion after the operation. They can eat normally after exhaustion and could be discharged from the hospital early. In open surgery, especially complex combined organectomy, patients have a relatively long time to pass gas.

5. Small Abdominal Incision Scar
Most of the laparoscopic surgery adopts two-port and four-port technique. One of the port is opened on the belly button to avoid leaving long scars in the abdominal cavity of the patient. After recovery, only 1-3 incision scars of 0.5-1cm long are left in the abdominal cavity. Because of the small surgical wound and less pain, the laparoscopic surgery is also called ‘keyhole’ surgery.
